Aaniin, my name is Teagan de Laronde (she/her) and I am Métis with with historic roots/ routes from Northern Lake Superior. I am currently enrolled at Trent University in the Indigenous Bachelor of Education program with teachables in Indigenous Studies and English. I previously graduated from the University of Toronto where I completed a specialization in Indigenous Studies along with a double minor in Political Science and Religion. I am passionate about Indigenous Studies and incorporating Indigenous Knowledges into all facets of life and levels of education. I am excited to bring this passion to TRACKS and be involved in the Oshkwazin Program working as the Youth Program Coordinator.
In the past, I have worked for a variety of Indigenous communities and organizations, as well as with different educational institutions focused on working to integrate Indigenous perspectives and ways of being into education. In school, I have worked towards being a student leader, representing Indigenous perspectives and ways to advance Truth and Reconciliation. In my spare time, I help to facilitate workshops on music and dance, I create beadwork, and love to spend time outside.
As an Indigenous youth myself, I have been privileged to find my voice and have felt love and support along the way from peers, friends, and family. With that privilege comes responsibility. I recognize the accountability to uplift others and ensure that new generations of Indigenous youth feel comfortable, supported, and empowered to step into leadership roles. I am delighted to have the opportunity to work and grow with other Indigenous youth in this role and to work towards strengthening our communities. Miigwech & Marsii.
