School Workshops F.A.Q.

Workshops are typically 90 minutes long - perfect for 1 learning block! We are flexible and can modify a workshop as needed to fit your schedule. When we visit your school we can run a single workshop, or if more classes are interested, we can run a workshop for every learning block! An example schedule can be seen below:

Workshop 1: 9:00-10:25 - class 1
Recess/Lunch
Workshop 2: 10:40 - 12:05 - class 2
Recess/Lunch
Workshop 3: 1:05 - 2:30 - class 3

One workshop costs $250 plus our travel fee. 2 workshops cost $450 plus our travel fee, while 3 workshops (a full day) costs $650 plus our travel fee. For a class of 25 students, ​our workshops are $10 ​per student. 

Our travel fee is calculated for each individual school. Multiple factors are considered, including mileage and staff travel time. When TRACKS travels long distances, it is part of our policy to rent a vehicle to ensure a safe and efficient journey. In these cases, a portion of your travel fee may contribute to the costs associated with vehicle rental.

​Your school workshop fee goes beyond the simple price of a workshop. Your fee incorporates an honourarium for the Indigenous knowledge and science ​shared with your class and directly contributes to the reconciliation efforts at TRACKS Youth Program. 
We are open to finding a solution if these fees are limiting for your program.

We offer a variety of different programs for K-12 that are always changing! You can check out our current offerings here. Under each workshop’s description, you can find what ages/grades are best suited for that workshop. In some cases, we are able to adapt a workshop to fit a particular grade.

All our programs are aligned with University curriculum and feature Indigenous knowledge and science. 

Depending on the workshop, we may need access to your classroom’s smartboard or the gym/library space. We will always give you advance notice about any physical resources or space we may require.

As guest-educators, we do our best to create a safe and effective learning environment for everyone participating. We ask that you help us ensure students enjoy their TRACKS workshop by stepping in if any behaviours get out of hand. You know your students best, and we appreciate any help you’re able to provide! A TRACKS workshop is also a great opportunity for you to learn something new as well! We encourage you to participate, “get your hands dirty”, and show your students that everyone is a life-long learner!

You will receive an email when we are ready to book a workshop with you and your students. We’ll also hold onto your request information, so no need to worry about submitting another form!

We book school workshops on a first-come, first-served basis. That being said, we prioritize schools in Peterborough and the Peterborough area. Our capacity is always fluctuating. Depending on our resources in a given year, we may have limited vehicle access and it may be more difficult for us to make the trip to your school. We always try our best to visit as many schools as we can and accommodate everyone!

We like to keep busy at TRACKS! Our school-year programming schedule includes school workshops, outreach activities, PA-day camps, and March Break Camps. TRACKS also develops curriculum to share with other organizations, offering take-home resources and training opportunities for teachers and educators. Throughout the summer, TRACKS continues with activities and workshops, while also providing week-long summer day camps.
