Aanii/Hello,
My name is Willow Graham-des Vignes, and I am the summer camp coordinator. I grew up just outside Peterborough/Nogojiwanong, around Stoney Lake. For most of my education, I was home schooled by my parents, and much of my learning, especially in science, came from the natural world. I was lucky to have forests and lakes nearby that I could connect with and learn from. I was fascinated by the interconnected ecosystems of plants and animals, which later led me to study Environmental Science at Trent University.
While at Trent, I studied land management, restoration, plant science, and environmental policy. Because I love being outdoors, I connected most with fieldwork and hands-on experiences. During my final year, I participated in a co-op at a forest school, where I had the opportunity to teach children through outdoor education.
Throughout my late teens, I began to notice that many children did not have the same opportunities to connect with nature as I did, which inspired me to pursue outdoor education. I started at the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre as an outdoor educator, then later worked for GreenUP and TRACKS. I found myself in awe of the beautiful relationships Indigenous communities have with the land and loved learning from my fellow TRACKS coworkers, especially improving my knowledge of Anishinaabemowin.
In 2023, I served as the TRACKS Communications Lead and have returned this summer as the Camp Coordinator. I am excited to visit communities, connect with youth throughout the summer, and guide my team through this busy season.
